None Of Us Got Where We Are Alone.

I don’t know about you but asking for help does not come easy for me! But in order to grow our business, it’s necessary to ask for help. This can look different for each of us. Maybe some need a virtual assistant to take over general admin stuff. Or if you have lots of customers maybe you need a customer service assistant to take care of all your support emails. Or maybe you are not sure what direction to go in at times and need the help of a coach or mentor. Read on for some more areas to get help in.

My point is we all need help at times and we need to learn to ask for it and then receive it. I am MUCH better than I used to be about asking for help, especially in my personal life. I’ve been a single parent for over a year and I have learned to ask for and accept help when offered. And if we think about it, the most successful people didn’t get where they are all by themselves.

None of us got where we are alone. Whether the assistance we received was obvious or subtle, acknowledging someone’s help is a big part of understanding the importance of saying thank you.

Where Could You Use Extra Help?

I’d love you to take time to think about areas you could use some help. Like I mentioned above, this help can look different for each of us. Maybe it’s just you running your business and it’s time to find a virtual assistant. Or do you need some part time child care, even just 2 days a week can make a huge difference for a mom working at home with kids! Has your health been declining, could be time to look into a personal trainer or nutritionist.

Here are three ways I have recently asked for help:

  • Using interns for specific projects when I need some fresh ideas. I currently have an intern helping me with social media and a few other marketing tasks. She brings amazing ideas and because she is going to college for entrepreneurship she tells me about tools and other things I would never think of on my own. She needs the experience for her resume and I am getting new ideas to help set me apart from other online businesses. You can find interns looking for both paid and unpaid internships. If this is something you want to look into, click here for the site I use to find mine. It doesn’t cost a thing to post internships.
  • Hiring a house cleaner. Mine comes 2x a month and her rates are very reasonable. I use to spend 1/2 my Saturday cleaning. But I can do just 3 extra hours of work per month to pay for her time. For me, it’s totally worth it. If you need more me time think about what you could get some help with and how that would make you feel!
  • Investing in a mentor and having an accountability partner. This has been huge in building my business. I haven’t always had a mentor but I do suggest if you don’t have a mentor or mastermind group then at least have an accountability partner. In addition to having a mentor, I recently asked a local mom online business owner if she wanted to meet twice a month. I really miss working in person with someone. We have our first meeting set up for next week and I am so excited! If you are a mom with an online business, I’d love to have you join my private FB group where you can get support and maybe even find an accountability partner if you are looking for one.

In Conclusion

To sum this up, we all need to ask for help. And if you are thinking it’s time for a Virtual Assistant here’s a helpful blog post I wrote about hiring one. I want to give you a couple quick tips too. I’ve started working with a small business tax advisor rather than an accountant. She pointed out that just because someone says they are an Independent Contractor they may not be. And if you were to get audited this could be a problem. She suggested I make sure they work with 2 or more clients at all times. Also, ask them if they have business cards. This means they have taken the time to establish a business in the eyes of the IRS. And my tax lady used to work for the IRS. This doesn’t cover it all but some good tips to keep in mind.

I have a client I am hiring for right now so we have been discussing this as some people that work from home don’t really understand what an Independent Contractor is. Now I am not a legal expert so if you have legal questions I suggest you contact your lawyer. Here’s a link to a helpful article that might answer some questions too.

Now go ask for some help!
