How a Daily Routine Increases Productivity

I am sure by now you have heard someone somewhere talk about the importance of a daily routine. I used to think this was silly and blow it off. But…now that I have one, it makes all the difference.

And think about it, any routine you have gets easier with time.

Take, for example, exercise. If you get into a routine, plan ahead, know what you are doing, and so on, it eventually gets easier and you see the benefits of it (meaning a healthier body).

“When I’m tempted to skip my morning routine or another form of self-care, I remind myself that I can better serve the people I love and the projects I care about when I start with me.”

~Courtney Carver

I am a single mom and have my son 24/7. I spend time with family. I run my own business. I have a foot issue that is causing me to have physical therapy 3x per week for about 1.5 hours each time. I usually make breakfast and dinner (we are talking simple stuff, people, but still healthy).

Then throw in random kid activities, appointments, dog stuff (he’s on meds), grocery shopping – no, we don’t have online ordering here yet. 🙁

Oh, and that healthy lifestyle class me and my son enrolled in for 2 months.

No, this isn’t a complete list of all I do in a day/week/month, but here’s my point

Life happens. We all have a lot going on, and we choose what we spend our time on. In fact, if you are sitting here reading this saying you are TOO BUSY to also add in a daily routine, I want to tell you something.

YOU are CHOOSING to be busy. Busy is a choice. I was once busy all the time, and let me tell you, it sucked!!!

And I changed it.

How do I fit in a daily routine? I decided, first, I was worth it! We often put ourselves last. Stop doing that! Second, I decided that my routine was a priority. Third, I tried different things until I found what I loved. If you don’t love it and enjoy it, you won’t keep up with it.

I am going to share exactly what I do daily. Take it or leave it. But please create your own! Once you do, I’d love for you to let me know what your daily routine is or at least what you are trying out. 🙂

  • Make my bed.
  • Eat a light healthy breakfast.
  • Meditate for 15 min (I use an app called Abraham Hicks Vortex Attraction, $15, and I love it because the meditations cover specific areas and are only 15 min).
  • Drink a cup of coffee or hot tea.
  • Journal for 10 min or so.

I do this leisurely right after I drop my son off at school. If I happen to wake up early before him, then I sometimes will go ahead and meditate. But I find I concentrate better with an empty house.

Now here’s a couple mistakes I made when I first tried to create my routine:

  • Making it WAY complicated – I was doing like 10 things, and it took forever!
  • Following EXACTLY what others did – like I said, do what you enjoy. Love some of mine? Then do it. Don’t like it? Then don’t do it.

Again, I would love to hear what you decide for your routine, so email me and let me know!
